My artwork often involves the ocean. I am a committed open water swimmer and a keen observer of nature. The ocean, its creatures, and its coastlines are a constant inspiration, and dominant themes in my work. My work explores the beauty and quirkiness of these elements, as well as their vulnerability to pollution and climate change.
Originally, I have worked predominately in clay. I find clay’s readiness to be transformed, both in shape and texture, make it a perfect medium for exploring the moods, colours and creatures of the oceans. I colour the surface of the clay with underglaze, or layered glazes. I am now expanding my practice into sculptures made from fibre, grasses and found objects, using random weaving and other weaving techniques.
